The company was founded by Jason Bragg who decided a degree in Psychology and English Literature would be best utilized driving and guiding tour groups all over New Zealand. After 3 years ‘learning the ropes’ in NZ and a couple of years as a safari guide in Africa, he returned home to manage a travel store (a real job for a while) and began developing the Rover Tours concept

That concept is based on passionate, well educated, well traveled guides showing small groups of travelers Wellington. Our tours are designed around interactive conversations rather than boring old fashioned commentary. Our range of tours are basically themed explorations of Wellington suited to different travelers.
The company now employs a small team of staff for year round operations. Nathan is 2nd in command. He is a Wainuiomata local and comes to us after spending time in Queenstown gaining experience as an Elf in the Lord of the Rings movies.

Laura joins us all the way from Feilding (stopping in Palmerston North to gain a history degree) and has been around since May 2007. Rendall joined us in Summer 2008 after a stint taking photos and driving 4x4 vehicles around beautiful Queesntown. Craig is another small town boy come good (with a degree in Psychology and Sociology from Waikato) who has spent the last few years running mountain Bike tours up and down an active volcano. He is now making himself at home in an active earthquake zone.
In 2009 the company was bought by Scott Courtney, another Wellington local boy made good. Scott’s first love was and has always been, showcasing the wonders New Zealand has to offer. After training in Adventure Tourism in Queenstown with Otago Polytechnic, Scott returned to Wellington to run the family engineering business. In 2007 this was bought out and after a year of training the new owners, Scott returned to tourism driving 4x4 safaris around the stunning Wellington coastline. While doing this Scott discovered a group of people who are as passionate about Wellington as he is, and with Jason and Sarah planning on spending some time with her parents back in England – It was a perfect fit.
Our motto is still get out there and enjoy, so lets go!

What Makes Us Different?
We search for and intensively train up the best individuals we can find into great guides so we can offer the best small group interactive tours in Wellington. We use roomy Toyota Vans to ensure you're not lost in the back of a bus. That is the Rover difference.
Others Are Saying...
“We just wanted to send a quick note to extend our thanks to Wellington Rover Tours, and especially to our tour guide, Jack, for giving us a fantastic tour of the Wellington-area Lord of the Rings sites, and also the city of Wellington as a whole. We took both the “Rover Ring” and the “Wellington Explorer” tours, both with Jack as our guide, We definately consider it some of the best money we have ever spent!”
"Wellington was the highlight of our trip and the Capital was a great place to stay... I especially need to thank you for the Lord of the Rings tour. It was fantastic! Both Stefano and I really enjoyed that and keep saying it was the best part of the trip. Nathan, our guide, was wonderful and really went out of his way to show us the LOTR sites but also to talk to us a lot about New Zealand in general and get to know the country and especially Wellington. It was such a great day." - Emily and Stefano from USA
"...Jack was the perfect guide to these sites, mainly because his own enjoyment of the films really showed; apart from the technical details of the films, he even pointed out a lot of thematic elements in the films which we had not considered before. The tour was also excellent even from a “non-Lord of the Rings fanatic” perspective, since during the tour we also learned a lot about the history of New Zealand and of Wellington, and the native flora and fauna of the area.
