In the Media...

When the national news wanted a quote about the 'Unexpected Party Chat' on the upcoming Hobbit film they came to us. Watch the YouTube clip above and you can link to the full online interview posted on the WETA NZ website here

Meredith and Cindy Bragg dropped out and visited the world (well in particular Middle Earth Wellywood) and they preferred us to the others. Read what they have to say here

Our Lord of the Rings tour has been discovered by the DISCOVERY CHANNEL. Phil Keoghan of the AMAZING RACE fame came on a tour during Easter 2005. The episode, titled 'NEW ZEALAND: MOVIE PARADISE' began screening on the DISCOVERY CHANNEL worldwide on the 27th September 2005. Keep watching a TV near you for a repeat. And no, we were not eliminated.

The Courier Mail reporter Phil Bartsch enjoyed a tour with us and we received a RING OF CONFIDENCE. The response from readers of the article has been fantastic and you can read it here

The Best 7 Locations, Not Just Half a Tour!
Our Half day Lord of the Rings location tour brings the best 7 locations in both the North and South of Wellington. This is the best way to see Wellington's Lord of the Rings locations in half a day with the experience of our knowledgeable Lord of the Rings specialist guides.

We cover a lot of ground, but there is enough time to explore, recreate scenes for yourself and work out how the movies were made.  The first location is exploring Mount Victoria and the 'recreation greenbelt' where the Hobbits hid and were chased by Ringwraiths. There are numerous scenes here but Rover lists this as only 1 location.

From Mount Victoria we drive north to explore the Hutt Valley. Stops include the Hutt River (Anduin) and Harcourt Park (Isengard). In Kaitoke Regional Park we include morning/afternoon tea under the elevish trees of the Rivendell location. We also spend time at Minas Tirith and Helms Deep at an old quarry closed to general visitors.

Small groups ensure the fellowship enjoys a personal experience.
Rover Tours are the Lord of the Rings location professionals in Wellington. We were the first company in the North Island to operate tours and our passengers are constantly telling us we have the best guides in NZ. If you have an interest in the Lord of the Rings and you want a unique Wellington experience in only 4 hours, then this is the tour for you.

Lord of the Rings Half Day Tour

How does this tour compare to the
Full Day Rover Rings Tour?

The extra time allows the tour  to be more relaxed with the inclusion of lots more of Lord of the Rings stories and locations. We have seen and learnt a lot over the years and imparting knowledge takes time. That is the major difference between the half and full day tours. Less time equals less stories. Actual locations we miss out are Dunharrow (although some was filmed on Mount Victoria) and Bree. We don’t have time for the Scorch-O-Rama café experience and exploring the world famous Weta Cave. There is also no time to walk the loop track in Kaitoke Regional Park to truly appreciate the wonders of Rivendell. We prefer the full day tour experience but provide half day tours for those without time.

Please Note: Rover Terminology

Scene: One camera angle or shot in a movie
Location:  Specific place where scenes or scenes were filmed

No matter how many locations other companies promise, you can be sure Rover is showing you the most.

What Others Say:

"I just wanted to write and thank you for a wonderful full day LOTR trip we took with one of your staff last Thursday.  Your guide was really lovely and very informative.  We had a wonderful day and were thrilled with all the locations etc that we were shown.  Even a bit of rain didn’t worry us.  My young son Alexander (7) loved the morning tea at Rivendale and I was thrilled to see how much he enjoyed the whole day (especially laughing at mum with the elf ears on!). Could you tell your guide thank you from us and tell her we even made it up to see Hobbiton to see ‘the shire”, which was not really planned prior to leaving for Australia (and I bought a LOTR Location guidebook – which was very interesting). I would recommend your trips to other LOTR fans!!!Thanks again!!!" (Suzanne and Alexander Simpson from Brisbane Oct 2007)
